LLPH-CR today endorsed Grant Starrett in the primary for Tennessee's 4th Congressional District. Grant Starrett is challenging Rep. Scott DesJarlais who is running for re-election.
LLPH-CR stated the following in endorsing Grant Starrett,
"Grant Starrett is a fresh, young (age 28) conservative who will bring a new perspective focused on the Constitution to Washington D.C. After six years of DesJarlais, it is time for Tennessee's 4th to elect a true Conservative Reform Leader.
Back in 2012, DesJarlais faced a strong primary challenge from State Senator Jim Tracy. He won by 38 votes after running to the right of Tracy on several issues. LLPH Second Revolution, our former organization, declined to endorse in this race because we felt that Tracy had a significant amount of establishment tendencies. We were unwilling to settle for an establishment candidate just to defeat a backbencher.
This year is different. DesJarlais will face off against a true conservative in Grant Starrett. Grant Starrett worked for Senator Jim Demint, one of the greatest conservative leaders in our time. He has won praise from conservative leaders across the nation, from Erick Erickson to Mark Levin.
Here's what some of them had to say about Grant Starrett:
"I first met Grant when he was in law school working for Senator Jim DeMint, and I’ve subsequently gotten to know him at various conservative conferences and also in Atlanta and Nashville. Here’s what I know: Grant is a man of character and conviction. He is a constitutional conservative of the highest order, and would be an outstanding member of the Freedom Caucus." ---Erick Erickson; conservative commentator and former Editor in Chief of RedState
"I want to endorse you, strongly. I think you'd make an outstanding Constitutional conservative in the House of Representatives, wouldn't it be spectacular to get some new fresh young blood in there, another Constitutional conservative who will give 'em hell?" ---Mark Levin; conservative commentator
Stuart Rothenberg, the well-respected political analyst, has said that this is a “serious race” and the Washington Examiner recently wrote that Starrett is a “candidate to watch.” (Opportunity Lives).
One of the goals of LLPH-CR is to find new leaders who can champion our message of liberty and freedom while bringing new people to conservatism.
Starrett fits this mold perfectly stating, "We should be waging an all out war for the working class in this country and we’re not doing it. We should be playing offense instead of huddling in a corner." (The Federalist).
Grant Starrett will produce not only a strong conservative record, but he will be a strong AND effective conservative voice in Congress.
Rep. Scott DesJarlais' record is not one of the worst but it is not one of the greatest either. From impeding on liberty through his opposition to the hemp amendment to supporting crony capitalism in the past including the Export-Import Bank to supporting the addition of over $700 billion in debt, it is clear that Rep. DesJarlais' has stayed in D.C. for far too long with little to show for his time in Congress. Rep. DesJarlais' personal problems, from his affairs to promoting abortion while claiming to be pro-life to being fined by the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners for having sex with his patients, have all prevented him from doing his job properly. It is time to bring him back to Tennessee after six long years.
It is time to send a new voice to Washington D.C.! We are proud to endorse Grant Starrett for the August 4, 2016 primary to represent Tennessee's 4th Congressional District."
